The 12.7 million provincial residents and their hopes have come together to make Gyeonggi Province a mecca of Korea's high-tech industries, an economic hub of global enterprises, and a region of hope with boundless well-being and happiness. There are those who study and strive to create better policies for Gyeonggi Province's future and to write stories of hope. These are the people who represent the citizens of Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly. Korea's autonomy system's history of overcoming hardship and pain. After the first Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly was formed in 1956, the second assembly was forcibly disassembled by the military regime in the 1960s. But with an ardent wish for democracy, the Third Assembly was formed in 1991. After the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and Eighth Assemblies, the People-focused, livelihood-oriented ninth gyeonggi provincial assembly was formed in July 2014 to further reach out to the people. Under the leadership of the Chairman and Vice Chairman, the 128 Assembly Members representing 31 cities and districts are carrying out politics of communication and harmony for understanding the wishes and will of the Gyeonggi people. Politics of service that puts highest priority on happiness and well-being of the people. And politics of hope for greater Gyeonggi and a better tomorrow. To fulfill its role, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly conducts administrative audits and budget reviews through regular and ad hoc meetings throughout its 140-day terms every year. In addition to crafting effective legislation for Gyeonggi Province, it is fulfilling its role as the representative body of the people by monitoring the policies of the Gyeonggi provincial government and the Office of Education. It also closely supervises the annual budget of the Gyeonggi provincial government. Conducting legislative activities with a stronger mandate than ever before, the 9th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly consists of 11 standing committees that review issues in an efficient manner so as to guide Gyeonggi Province's administration. By searching for answers in the field and approaching people with an open mind, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly is carrying out true people-oriented legislative activities. Furthermore, special committees for reviewing agendas such as budgets and settlements present appropriate directions for administrative affairs. It takes courage to say no when everyone else says yes. The foresight to say yes for the people of Gyeonggi Province regardless of party factions. Furthermore, it has formed partnerships with nine regional assemblies in six countries to search for ideal directions in regional autonomy systems, thus becoming a true global assembly.
